Winifred M. Fullmer

(October 5, 1925 – February 21, 2025)

Winifred Margaret Florence Fullmer, age 99, of Millsboro, DE, formerly of Springfield, Delaware County, PA, went home to the Lord on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Fair Acres Geriatric Center in Lima, Pennsylvania.

"Winnie" was born in Middlesbrough, Ormesby, North Yorkshire, England, on October 5, 1925, the daughter of Andrew West Florence and Mary Elizabeth Florence Taylor. During World War II, she served as a "land girl" in the Women's Land Army (WLA), which played a crucial role in boosting Britain's food production. It was during this time that she met her husband, Mervyn. They married on November 3, 1945, in South Bank, England, and she later became a U.S. citizen on December 9, 1964.

Winifred was an active member of the Indian River Yacht Club in Millsboro, DE, and also served as a water aerobics instructor. She was a distinguished artist working in oils, acrylics, pastels, and ceramics and generously shared her talents by teaching crafts to parishioners of St. George's Chapel in Harbeson for their Christmas bazaar. One of her greatest achievements was having her hand-painted Christmas tree bell ornament selected for display on a White House Christmas tree, which led to an invitation to a brunch at the White House honoring the selected artists. Like her husband, she was also an avid bowler.

For many years, Winnie taught painting to her beloved "ceramic girls" in her basement classroom, a passion that helped fund her many trips back to her beloved England. She will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, Nana, and Great-Nana.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline Ann Fullmer, in 1966. She is survived by her loving son, Chuck Fullmer, and his wife, MaryEllen, of Needmore, PA; three grandchildren: Sean M. Fullmer and his wife, Allyson, of Willow Grove, PA; Megan E. (Fullmer) Moore and her husband, Chris Moore, of Springfield, PA; and Christopher C. Fullmer and his wife, Mary Fullmer, of Magnolia, DE. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Lily Anna Moore, Colin Christopher Moore, Brynn Emma Moore, Owen Charles Moore, and Benjamin Teatom Fullmer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at St. George's Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Rd., Harbeson, DE 19951. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery, with a luncheon at the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a memorial contribution in Winifred's name to Tunnel to Towers.
