William "Bill" Pete Shockley, age 81, of Frankford, Delaware passed away peacefully at Seaford Tidal Health Hospital on February 26, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born in Frankford, DE on July 1, 1942, son of the late Frank Horace Shockley, Sr. and Viola May (Rogers) Shockley.

He graduated from John M. Clayton in 1960.

Bill served his country in the National Guard for 34 years until his honorable discharge in 2000 when he was fulfilling the position of Active Sergeant Major.

He traveled extensively in the United States and Europe on National Guard training missions. He supervised an award-winning National Guard Rifle Shooting Competition Team.

Bill worked as a supervisor at the DuPont Nylon Plant for 39 years until he retired in 2000. While working at DuPont, Bill met his wife, Jackie, of 44 years until her death in August 2017.

Bill was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He adored his family and spent much of his free time at their sporting events. Bill loved to watch them participate in baseball, softball, football, soccer, scouts, and equestrian events. He devoted time to helping prepare and maintain the softball and baseball fields at Lower Sussex Little League in Roxana. He enjoyed clamming and crabbing. In recent years, Bill took up playing corn hole. During football season, Bill always cheered for his beloved Dallas Cowboys, win or lose. He also loved to watch NASCAR racing as well.  Bill was often seen with a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon in hand and a smile on his face.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Horace Shockley; his mother, Viola May Shockley; a brother, Frank Horace Shockley, Jr.; his first wife Phyllis (Hudson) Shockley; his second wife, Jacquelyn (Jackie Lankford) Shockley.

Bill is survived by his stepson, Stewart Smith and wife Stephanie; a son, Heath Shockley and his wife, Paula; a daughter, Brandi Lecates and husband Lennie.  He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Amanda Marotta and husband Luigi, Jonathon Smith, Kierstin and Jaden Shockley, Justin & Chase Shockley, Charles Wayne, and Caleb Lecates and 4 great grandchildren, Lorelei & Sadie Marotta, Hayven Shockley, & Ila Wayne. Additionally, Bill is survived by his sister, Sandra and her husband Norman Bunting; two brothers, Jerry Shockley and Eddie Shockley and wife Teresa.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, DE 19945, where friends and family may call after 11 AM.  Interment will follow at Carey's Cemetery in Frankford, DE.
