William (Bill) Arthur Davenport, age 83, of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

He was born in Newark, NJ on July 2, 1941, son of the late William Davenport and the late Frances (Zingg) Davenport.

Bill served in the NJ Army National Guard for over 20 years, and his patriotism was reflected in the kindness and mentoring he showed those under his command. He later served as the volunteer Chaplain for American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, DE serving many families during their time of grief. Bill was also a civil servant for the State of NJ in the Department of Health for over 30 years serving in divisions dedicated to addiction and prevention services.

Bill was a man of faith and served various roles including usher, foodbank ministries and more for the congregations he belonged to in both NJ and DE. Most recently he was a beloved member of the Long Neck Methodist Church with his wife Janet where he volunteered, including participation in the choir.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years and mother of his children, Alice B. Davenport. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Frances Morris.

Bill is survived by his wife, Janet I. Davenport; son, Scott (May) Davenport of San Diego, CA and daughter Amy (Michael) Tucci of Magnolia, DE. Bill was so proud his four grandchildren Fox and Jayna Davenport and Michaela and Lauren Tucci.

Services will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery chapel in Millsboro on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 2 pm.
