Virginia Bennett Major of Dagsboro, DE passed away on February 3, 2026. She was born May 16, 1934 in Camden, NJ, the daughter of the late James Bennett and Anna (Craig) Bennett.

Virginia grew up in Haddonfield, NJ and attended St. Rose of Lima in Haddon Heights. She graduated from Camden Catholic in 1952. Virginia went on to earn her Bachelor's degree from Glassboro State College and a Masters in Education from Temple University. She taught various grade levels early in her career and retired in 1993 as the Director of Special Services at Bordentown Regional School District in NJ.

Throughout her life, Virginia was involved in numerous activities. She was president of the Saint Andrews Altar Rosary Society in Jobstown, NJ as well as president of the Northern Burlington County Regional High School Board of Education.

Family was very important to Virginia. She married James "Jim" Major Jr USMC in 1975. Together with her daughter, Sueann Bennett, DVM and her sister and brother-in-law Eileen and Sebastian Esgro started Shamrock Farm. Shamrock Farm was a highly successful Arabian horse breeding farm that produced many champions. Years later, Jim and Virginia created Shamrog Farm in Columbus, NJ to carry on the horse business and to restore a 1700's farmhouse.

Virginia loved to play golf. She took many golf trips with Jim and Sue and earned her nickname "Daisy" while playing golf. They were all members of Cape May National.

In 2001, Virginia and Jim moved to Dagsboro and joined Cripple Creek Country Club. This was their forever home. Virigina was an active player representing Cripple Creek on many occasions. She was the 2002 WPGA Senior Championship at Green Hill CC. When her golf career was over, Virginia continued to be active in Cripple Creek social activities.

In addition, to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James Major and her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Sebastian Esgro. She is survived by her daughter Sue Bennett, her step daughter Lynn Major, and her grandsons James Worrell and Stanley Worrell.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17 from 10-11 a.m. at Saint Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Virginia requested that memorial donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor or Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School , 11242 Racetrack Road, Berlin, MD 21811.
