Virginia "Ginger" C. Hitchens, age 82, of Ocean View, DE went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 11, 2024 while surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.

Ginger was born in Milford, DE on April 18, 1941 daughter of the late William Wallace Collins and the late Anna Elizabeth (Phillips) Collins.  She graduated from Lord Baltimore High School Class of 1959 and Beebe School of Nursing in 1962.

Ginger worked as a Registered Nurse for Dr. David S. Howard for over 20 years and she was fondly known as everyone's favorite nurse.  She was a faithful member of the Ocean View Church of Christ where she had served as a member of the choir and praise group.  Ginger was also part of the SIS Group (Sisters in Service) at the church.  She had an amazing personality and her laugh was infectious as she could brighten up any room.  Ginger was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Bill Collins, Bob Collins and Harold G. Collins and a sister, Shirley Stephens.  Ginger is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Roger W. Hitchens; a son, Dale W. Hitchens (Lynn) of Ocean View, DE; a daughter, Stephanie A. Wilkinson (Jeff) of Ocean View, DE; two grandchildren, Cory Hitchens (Pam) of Georgetown, DE and Andrew Hitchens (Emily) of Holly Ridge, NC; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Ocean View Church of Christ, 55 West Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970, where friends and family may gather after 10 AM.  Interment will follow at Mariner's Bethel Cemetery in Ocean View, DE.
