Virginia Mae Hawley, age 88, of Frankford, DE, formerly of Maryland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.

Born in Tiltonsville, OH, on April 27, 1936, Virginia was the daughter of the late Jack Hanlin and the late Alice (Cole) Hanlin. She worked for several years as a supervisor for East Coast Ice Cream before moving to Delaware over 20 years ago. She was also employed at G&E in Ocean View in the deli department at the grocery store before retiring.

Virginia was very active with the Ocean View Eagles Club #4528 in Ocean View, DE, the American Legion Post #24 in Dagsboro, DE, and the East Sussex Moose Lodge #2542 near Roxana, DE. She was a very friendly and outgoing person who spoke her mind. Virginia loved to dance and sing karaoke.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ty Renshaw, and her five siblings. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, George E. Bender, Jr.; two children, Tammie Kromer and her husband, Wayne of Laurel, MD, and Tina Renshaw of Baltimore, MD; four stepchildren, George Bender, III and his wife Janee of Seaford, DE, Debra Sorensen and her husband, Raymond of Fairless Hills, PA, Joseph Bender and his wife, Tammy of Florida, and James Bender of Levittown, PA; 6 grandchildren; 19 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 5 step great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, where friends and family may gather after 3 PM. Interment will be held privately.
