Vincent Joseph George, 88, passed away on June 23, 2024, in the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford DE. Born on May 21, 1936, Vinny was known for his unique and caring nature, always considering all children as his own, whether they were his stepchildren or biological ones.

Vinny served honorably as a Marine during the Korean War, showcasing the valor and resilience emblematic of the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, he dedicated 35 years to New Castle County, where his commitment to public service was evident to all who worked alongside him.

He attended Salesianum School in Wilmington, DE, which laid the groundwork for his strong community ties and lifelong friendships. Vinny was a familiar face at his favorite local spots, The Prince of Piedmont Lodge 475 in Wilmington and the VFW post 7234 in Ocean View, where he enjoyed having a drink and socializing.

Vinny is preceded in death by his wife Judith (Crowley) George. He is survived by his loving and devoted partner, Shirley Stong; daughters Donna Paulus (Russell), Sharon Ascione, and Donna Bayard; sons Anthony George (Lynn), Christopher George (Dawn), and Michael Oakes (Paige); along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.

The Delaware Veterans Home showed care, compassion, dignity and respect to him during his time in their care. The family is forever grateful for all that they did for him.

A memorial service to celebrate Vinny's life will be held on July 11 from 10 am to 12 pm at Melson's Funeral Home in Ocean View, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in his memory. Vinny's legacy of love, service, and community will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
