Obituary

Thomas F. Murphy Jr., passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2026 one month after celebrating his 90th birthday. Tom lived a remarkable life, leaving behind a life defined by love, laughter, friendship, family, and an extraordinary generosity of spirit. He was the kind of person who made everyone around him feel welcome, valued, and important. A true gentleman in every sense of the word, Tom had a warmth and kindness that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Tom grew up in the Bronx, New York, the son of Thomas F Murphy Sr and Rose Murphy. From his parents, he learned the importance of hard work, generosity, loyalty, and treating everyone with kindness and respect. Those values stayed with him throughout his life and became the foundation for how he raised his own family

Tom shared a loving and devoted marriage of 57 years with his wife, Pamela. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving family filled with traditions, laughter, and travel. Through all of life's seasons, Pamela was his partner, best friend, and the center of their family. Tom was the proud father of four children: Kevin (Kathy), Kimberly (Matt), Megan, and Tara (Josh). Being a father was one of the greatest joys of his life, and he was incredibly proud of each of his children and their families. He was the beloved grandfather of eight grandchildren: Landon, Chloe, Bianca, Lacey, Mateo, Gabriella, Courtney, and Cooper. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy and pride. He cherished watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, sharing family traditions, and simply being together. For Tom, there was nothing better than having his family around him. He is also survived by his sister, Denise Folliard.

Tom will be remembered for his infectious smile, easy laughter, and his remarkable ability to make every person feel important. He loved a good story, never hesitated to laugh at himself, and had a genuine interest in the people around him. He made friends easily, but what was even more special was his ability to keep those friendships for decades.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 12 p.m. on Frinday, October 16, 2026 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930. A visitation will take place at 11:30 a.m. and burial will follow at 2 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2026 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE  19966.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the VFW in Tom's memory.
