Susan Virginia Eckert, age 78, of Ocean View, DE, formerly of Bethany Beach, DE and Baltimore, MD, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, in Annapolis, MD.

Born on December 28, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Virginia Brooks Hartis and Charles Hartis. Susan dedicated over 20 years of her career as a medical technologist and researcher at Johns Hopkins, where her work reflected her deep commitment to science and helping others.

Susan loved to travel and share adventures with her beloved husband, George F. Eckert, Jr., who preceded her in death, along with their daughter, Amy Eckert.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Melissa Wilson and her husband Benjamin of Annapolis, MD; Brooks Heckner and his husband Alec of Boston, MA; and Molly Chamness and her husband Aron of North Carolina. She also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren—Paige Wilson, Grant Wilson, Katie Eckert-Prater, Sam Prater, Alex Menard, and Sophia Menard—and one great-grandson, Maverick Eckert Hudson. Susan is also survived by her brother, Stephen Hartis of Millsboro, DE.

A prayer service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, DE 19970 where friends and family can gather at 11 a.m.
