Stephen Joseph Galata, age 84, of Bethany Beach, DE formerly of Ellicott City, MD passed way on Friday, July 4, 2025 a Cadia Renaissance Health Care in Millsboro, DE.

Steve was born in Duquesne, PA on December 22, 1940 son of the late John Galata and the late Mary (Balog) Galata.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962-1965.  Steve was an engineer for the Department of Defense with 37 years of service working at Fort Meade in Maryland.

Steve was a fighter as he was a 5-time cancer survivor and volunteered with the Cancer Support Group at the Tunnell Cancer Center as well as a yoga instructor for the Cancer Support Community Delaware (CSCDE), both in Rehoboth, DE.

He was a huge supporter of his community, volunteering at South Coastal Library, as a reading mentor at John M. Clayton Elementary School and an active communicant at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, DE.  Steve served as an usher and member of the Men's Club at his parish and volunteered his skills at the annual St. Ann's Bazar where he repaired electronics and small appliances.

Steve made lasting friends with the Men's Group at McDonald's in Bethany Beach.  He will be remembered as an amazing woodworker and a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  Steve was also a talented baker and was well-known for his Hungarian Nut & Apricot Rolls that he made each Christmas and Easter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five siblings.  He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Vickie Drury; a son, Mark Stephen Galata and his wife, Jennifer of Pasadena, MD; three grandchildren, Phillip Galata and his wife, Beth of Finksburg, MD, Julie Galata of Martinsburg, WV and Brittany Smallwood and her husband, Curtis of Millersville, MD; three great-grandchildren, Lucas and Quinn Galata, Aubrey Smallwood and two step-great-grandchildren, Mathias and Sophia Tombros.

A visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 AM on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM.  Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Steve's name to Cancer Support Community Delaware (CSCD) 18947 John J. Williams Hwy., Suite 312 Rehoboth, DE. 19971
