In Loving Memory of Shelley Lynne Thompson

(August 9, 1971 – January 25, 2026)

Shelley Lynne Thompson, age 54, of Long Neck, Delaware, passed away on January 25th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and an unbreakable spirit.

Shelley grew up in Olney, Maryland and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1989. She graduated from UMUC with a bachelor's in Accounting in 1997 and worked for ATU as a comptroller for 26 years.

To know Shelley was to know a woman who was "crazy fun" and the undisputed life of the party. With a heart as big as the ocean she loved, she had a way of making everyone around her feel seen and loved. Her friends will remember her most for her infectious energy and her ability to find humor in almost anything - especially during those marathon laughing sessions with her mother and sister that would stretch on for hours.

Shelley's greatest pride was her family. She took immense joy in watching her nieces and nephews grow into the remarkable people she always knew they would become.

In this past year, Shelley achieved her most significant personal milestone: celebrating one year of sobriety. She was truly enjoying her "starting over period," embracing her new life with a renewed sense of purpose and joy. She felt she was living in "paradise" in Long Neck with her husband, Travis, enjoying every moment looking at the water from her deck or with her feet in the sand.

While she loved a day trip to the boardwalks of Ocean City or Rehoboth, you could most often find her right at home at her community beach. If there was a chair in the sun, Shelley's butt was in it, soaking up the rays with her beloved dogs, Mac and Maggie, whom she loved so much, lying nearby.

Those who knew her well will never forget the sound of her voice ringing out to her favorite song, "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes. Whenever that song played, Shelley didn't just listen; she sang with everything she had.

Shelley is survived by her devoted husband, Travis Thompson; her loving mother, Bonnie McMullen; and her dear sister, Shannon Dickerson. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces, Payton Dickerson and Addie Dickerson; nephews, Reese Dickerson and Charles-Olivier Thompson; her faithful fur babies, Mac and Maggie; and a community of friends who will miss her light every single day.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roland McMullen Jr.; grandparents, Roland and Louise McMullen; and David B. Weir.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Saint Peter's Church in Olney, MD 20832 at 11:00 AM. To honor Shelley's vibrant spirit, you are encouraged to wear bright colors to her celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southern Delaware Intergroup of AA . Contributions can be made to your local AA intergroup/district office or to the General Service Office to help carry on their mission.
