Severino B. Mendoza, Jr., age 93, of Georgetown, DE and Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Fenwick, surrounded by his loving family. He had been a resident there for the last several years.

Known affectionately as "Sev," he was born in Washington, D.C. on September 6, 1932, the son of the late Severino B. Mendoza, Sr. and the late Hermine (Seebacher) Mendoza. Early in life, Sev felt a spiritual calling and briefly attended seminary. He graduated from Wilson Teachers College in Washington, D.C., and began his career as a teacher before serving a short time as a police officer in the District of Columbia.

Sev proudly served his country in the United States Navy, retiring from the Reserves on May 1, 1986, after 26 years of service with the rank of Chief Hospital Corpsman. His federal career was spent with the Department of the Army at the Pentagon's Adjutant General Office, and later with the U.S. Army Non-Appropriated Funds office.

A passionate traveler, Sev especially loved exploring Europe. He was a devoted collector of antiques—particularly paintings and clocks—and had a deep appreciation for books. He also enjoyed investing in real estate. Sev will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his quick wit as a jokester, his role as the family historian, and his steadfast Catholic faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Manuel Anthony Mendoza and a half-brother, Oscar Mollari, Jr.  "Sev" is survived by his brother, Eric Mendoza and his wife, Linda; a half-sister, Nina Pesare; his lifelong friend, Walter Joseph Stewart; five nieces and nephews, Rita Mendoza, Mary Katherine Mendoza, Steven Mendoza, Erica Mendoza and Anthony Mendoza and several great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 35318 Church Road, Frankford, DE 19945.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Severino's name to VITAS Hospice, 30265 Commerce Drive, Suite 202, Millsboro, DE 19966.
