Ronald G. McCabe, age 91, of Dagsboro, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 22, 2024 in the comfort of his home.

Ron was born in Roxana, DE to the late Elisha Gray and the late Alberta McCabe.  Shortly after Ron's birth, Alberta met and married Rockford Murray and together raised Ron. Ron proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War from 1952-1956.

Ron was a hard worker that provided for his family.  He retired in 1985, from Dupont with 35 years of service and while working at Dupont he had a property management business in the beach area that he operated for over 50 years where he made countless customers and friends.  Ron also was a part-time real estate agent.

Ron was a man that never let any grass grow under his feet. Not only did he work hard providing for his family, but he also took great pride in serving his community. He served as a financial chairperson at Mariner's United Methodist Church in Ocean View and a lay leader and Sunday School teacher at St. George's Methodist Church in Clarksville, DE. He served as a director for Nylon Capital Federal Credit Union, served on the Board of Adjustments for 27 years, vice chairman and board of director for the Delaware Solid Waste Authority for 39 years and former town of Millville commissioner, treasurer and mayor. Ron was a life time member of Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation.

Ron followed in his family footsteps of becoming a Mason serving in the following capacities: Past Master of Doric Lodge #30 in Millville, DE, Past Master and charter member of Delaware Lodge #37 in Dagsboro, DE and President of the Scottish Rite.  He also was a member of the American Legion Post #24 in Dagsboro, DE and Korean War Veterans Association.

Ron was a selfless person always putting the needs of others before his own. He loved the simple things in life from spending time in nature watching the wildlife and had a special love for the ocean. He also helped countless people whether friends or strangers. Ron also loved to travel as he was fortunate enough to visit many countries throughout the world. He enjoyed going to the beach and socializing with his customers and friends. He considered everyone he ever met as his friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Stevie Murray; four brothers, Terry Murray, Richard Gray, Robbin Gray and Dale Gray and two sisters, Linda Stephenson and Delores Warren.  Ron is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Gloria (Bennett) McCabe; three children, Karen M. Murray, James R. McCabe (Sheila) and Kelley L. Gross (Randy); six grandchildren, Kari M. Murray, Andrew J. McCabe (Lindsey), Ben R. McCabe (Deniz), Chrissy T. Clark (DJ), Jonathan Gross (Sabrina) and Brooke Gross Oplinger (Kody) and 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.  Ron is also survived by four brothers, Herbert Murray, Earl Murray, Jerry Gray and Larry Gray and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE, where a Masonic service will be held at 8 PM.  A viewing will also be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the funeral home where the funeral service will begin at 1 PM.  Interment will follow at St. George's Cemetery in Clarksville, DE.
