Ronald E. Johnson, Sr., 83, of Ocean View, Delaware, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of the place he loved most.

Born on Christmas Eve in 1942 in Wilmington, Ronnie was the son of the late Elwood Henry and Margaret (Breece) Johnson. He graduated from Henry C. Conrad High School and went on to build a long career with General Motors, where he worked as an assembler until retirement.

Ronnie found joy in life's simple pleasures. In his younger years, he loved the freedom of the open road on his motorcycles. He treasured time spent camping and fishing with his family—moments filled with laughter, stories, and memories that will live on for generations. Later in life, he was happiest at home, unwinding with his favorite Westerns and enjoying the quiet comfort of familiar surroundings.

Family meant everything to Ronnie. He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife and lifelong companion, Susan Kay Johnson; his beloved son, Richard Ryan Johnson; and his sisters, Louise Longacre and Nancy Orledge.

He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly: his children, Patricia Elaine Sooy and her husband Donald of Newark, Ronald E. Johnson, Jr. of Ocean View, and Virginia Lynn Thaniel and her husband Paul of Baltimore; along with eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward.

A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, Delaware. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.
