Robert Francis McKenna (Bob) of Long Neck, DE, passed away at the age of 77 on November 4, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents James A McKenna and Mary Elizabeth (Ryan) McKenna, as well as his brother James McKenna and sister-in-law Marlee (Miller) McKenna.

Bob is survived by his wife Nickie of 53 years, and his daughters Maureen Fischer (Will) and Christie Bowie (Dave) as well as his sister Betty Kibbey (Charlie). He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Shannon and Marielle Fischer, Rylee, Trevor, Skylar, Chase, and Hope Bowie, as well as 5 nieces and nephews.

Bob was born October 28, 1946, in Providence, RI. He attended to St John's Catholic elementary school in Silver Spring, MD, Good Counsel HS (class of 1964) and Providence College (class of 1968). While in college, he was a member of the Wheaton Rescue Squad. In 1969 he joined the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Bob worked for the MCPD for 25 years, rising from Patrol Officer to the rank of Captain, Special Investigations Division. Captain McKenna retired in November 1994. After enjoying a couple years of retirement, he went to work for Vance Security where he was Director of Security Services for The Kennedy Center, Washington, DC. His absolute favorite experience there was meeting Willie Nelson and getting a tour of Willie's bus. After living in Olney for over 20 years, Bob and Nickie retired to Millsboro, DE in 2006.

Bob was known for his love of golf, and meeting up with "the boys" after. He was a loyal friend to many. In retirement he enjoyed golfing at Baywood, and for a time, worked in the pro shop. His other joys of retirement were captaining his boat the "McKenna", driving his black mustang, and spending time with his grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in his honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org or a charity of your choice.
