Richard "Dick" Sharpe passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at home in Ocean View, Delaware.

He was born in Allentown, PA on April 8, 1934. As a young man, Richard joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany. A specialization in cryptography led to a long career in the US Foreign Service. He met his wife Pat while stationed in the (former) Belgian Congo. Their first son was born in Washington, DC and their first official State Department posting was Paris, France. Three more sons were born in Paris, followed by posting in Hong King, Jordan, Venezuela and Spain. The children were educated in international schools and saw the wonders of the world as a family. Richard retired from the US Foreign Service in Fairfax County, Virginia before settling down permanently in Ocean View, Delaware in 2001 after a long life of international adventure.

In 2016, he took his wife back to Paris, France to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. He had a great sense of humor and a gift for making children laugh. A loving husband and father, Richard is survived by his wife Pat Sharpe; sons, Richard Sharpe, Robert Sharpe, Gregory Sharpe and Michael Sharpe; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a sister, Gloria.
