Richard "Dick" A. Schmitt, age 90, of South Bethany, DE formerly of Newark, DE passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in the comfort of his own home.

Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He retired as a supervisor after 30 years with Stauffer Chemical and Formosa Plastics. Following his retirement, he owned and operated a tavern for 20 years in Townsend, DE called the Yellow Bucket.

Dick was preceded in death by two daughters, Nadine Slack and Ramona Keenan; a son-in-law, Pierre Lawler and a brother, Frederick Schmitt.  He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Ann (Ponting) Schmitt; four children, Richard Schmitt, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Townsend, DE, Susan Lawler of South Bethany, DE, Reneé Millman and her husband, Dale of Lincoln, DE and Dennis Schmitt and his wife, Judith of Middletown, DE; Sons-in-law, Clinton Slack of Newark, DE and Paul Keenan of Ocean View, DE; a brother, Robert Schmitt and his wife, Catherine of Hamilton, NJ and a sister, Catherine Toppin of Addison, ME; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 11-12 noon on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 noon. Interment will be held at a later date.
