Richard Wayne Gerard

Gerard, Richard Wayne, 74, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Tuesday May 19, 2026.

Born in January of 1952 to the late Mr and Mrs Henry William Gerard, Rick was raised in Wilmington, DE.

He graduated from Willliam Penn High School. He began work at Christiana Care and graduated from the State of Delaware Constable Course. Rick ultimately retired from Christiana as a Master Corporal after forty-two years of dedicated service.

Rick enjoyed helping others. From the time he was young, Rick was dedicated to the fire service. He joined the Minquadale Fire Company in New Castle, DE as a young man. He served the offices of Captain of Rescue and Vice President, along with Firefighter. He became a life member of the fire department and was deeply proud of his service and fellow firemen.

He was a member of the DuPont Fish and Game Association and participated in many surf fishing tournaments.

In his retirement, Rick enjoyed spending time with his family and trips to the Outer Banks, NC. He enjoyed grilling for his family and friends and making sure his grass was cut on the perfect diagonal. Rick never allowed a garden weed or leaf to invade his property. He loved to watch MASH on television and was into military history. He was a friend to all and loved helping his neighbors when needed.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Caroline and Henry William Gerard. Also awaiting him in Heaven were his older brother George Kenneth Gerard and his son, Patrick Marion Gerard.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Kathryn Lee (nee Gorsuch) Gerard of Wilmington, DE with whom he shared 42 years of loving marriage. Rick is also survived by his loving daughter Ashley Katlin McBride and her husband David McBride. His two grand-daughters, McKenzie Lynn and Gabriella Lynn McBride will miss their Poppie dearly. Rick is also survived by one brother, Henry Gerald Gerard of Kings Lynn, England. Many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends also have amazing memories of their years spent with Rick.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday July 18, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Harrys Savoy Grill, 2020 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19810. Please enter through the rear doors to the main Banquet Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Minquadale Fire Company or a charity of your choosing. Checks for the Fire Company may be made out to Minquadale Fire Company and mailed to PO BOX 647 Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.
