Richard "Rick" Brendel, 81, of Selbyville, DE passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025 with his family by his side.

Born in Baltimore City, Rick spent many years in Howard County before moving to the beach in Delaware to enjoy his retirement. He had a lifelong love of the water and treasured his 14 years in the Bayside community.

Rick is survived by Janet, his beloved wife of nearly 59 years; his adoring daughter, Jessica Sullivan and her husband Brian; and his cherished granddaughters, Clare and Teagan Sullivan. He is also survived by his sister, Roseanna Bahlman; niece, Lauren; nephew, David (Chelsea); sister-in-law, Penny Folden (Jim); many cousins and friends.

Rick will be remembered for his sense of humor, his devotion to the Orioles and Ravens, and above all, the deep love and pride he carried for his family.  His wife, Janet, was the love of his life; the joy in his eyes when he looked at her and the playful way they teased each other were constant reminders of their bond. His daughter, Jessica, was the daughter he had always dreamed of, and the relationship they shared brought him immeasurable pride and happiness. His granddaughters, Clare and Teagan, were the twinkle in his eyes.  Rick treasured his family and friends, the closeness they shared throughout his life, and the many good times they enjoyed together. He will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to The Salvation Army or The Wounded Warrior Project.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, DE 19970, where friends and family may gather at 10 a.m.
