Odetta J. Bennett, 99, of Roxana, Delaware, gently passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on May 27, 1926, in the close-knit community of Roxana, Odetta was the cherished daughter of the late Merrill McCabe and Evelyn (Hickman) McCabe. A proud graduate of Selbyville High School's Class of 1944, she followed her calling to care for others, earning her nursing degree from the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.

Odetta devoted 25 years as a registered nurse at the Stockley Center, where her gentle spirit, steady hands, and compassionate heart brought comfort and dignity to those in her care.

Faith was the cornerstone of Odetta's life.  As a lifelong and devoted member of Roxana United Methodist Church, she gave generously of her time and talents. For decades, the sound of her piano filled the sanctuary, lifting hearts and enriching worship for all who gathered there.  She also volunteered her time for several years at Atlantic General Hospital and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Odetta carried a deep appreciation for life's simple joys. She often reminisced about her childhood days spent by the beach, where laughter and sunshine created memories, she treasured always.  She embraced opportunities to travel across the United States and, in her younger years, found happiness in the adventure of camping and the beauty of the outdoors.

She now joins in eternal rest those who went before her: her beloved husband, George L. Bennett; her daughter, Gail Jackson; her brother, William McCabe; and her sister, Gloria Windham.

Left to honor her memory are her devoted son, Bruce G. Bennett and his wife, Sandra, of Selbyville; her loving granddaughter, Lisa Ashman and her husband, John, of Dagsboro; her cherished great-grandchildren, Sedona and Quinton Ashman; along with seven nephews and one niece, all of whom will carry her legacy forward.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, Delaware, where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow at Roxana Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions in Odetta's name to Roxana United Methodist Church, 35914 Zion Church Road, Frankford, Delaware 19945.
