Nelson Lee Mohler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of the family that meant everything to him.

Nelson was born on July 2, 1940, in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and carried tremendous pride throughout his life in having been a member of the 101st Airborne Division, the “Screaming Eagles.” His service to his country was an important part of the man he was and remained a source of great pride throughout his life.

Nelson married the love of his life, Erma Jane Steffy Mohler, and together they built a life centered on love, faith, family, and devotion to one another. This November, Nelson and Erma would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Their marriage and the family they created together were among Nelson’s greatest accomplishments and greatest joys.

Nelson and Erma were blessed with three sons: N. Scott Mohler, husband of Cathy; Shawn L. Mohler, husband of Sherri; and Terry S. Mohler, husband of Stacie.

His family continued to grow through the generations. Scott and Cathy have a son, Derek Mohler, husband of Amy, and they have three children, Ashton, Brendon, and Cameron. Shawn and Sherri have a son, Ethan Mohler. Terry and Stacie have a daughter, Skylar Nordhoff, wife of M. Cole Nordhoff, and they have a daughter, Holland.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Nelson was lovingly known as “Pop Pop.” It was a name he wore with great pride. His family was not simply an important part of his life—they were his life. His love for his wife, his sons, their spouses, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren was unconditional and at the center of everything he did.

Some of Nelson’s happiest times were spent outdoors with the people he loved. He greatly enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandchildren, sharing not only the hunt but the conversations, stories, and time together that made those days so special. He also treasured fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passing along his love of the outdoors while creating memories they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Nelson also loved boating and being on the water, especially when those days could be shared with his family.

For Nelson, these activities were about much more than hunting, fishing, or boating. They had opportunities to spend time together, teach the younger generations, laugh, tell stories, and simply enjoy being surrounded by the people he loved most. Those days together are now treasured family memories and an important part of the legacy Pop Pop leaves behind.

Nelson also believed strongly in serving his community. He was a life member of Liberty Fire Company in New Holland, Pennsylvania, where he served as a Lieutenant with the Fire Police. His commitment to service extended to his fellow veterans as an active member of the New Holland VFW and American Legion. Whether serving his country, his community, or his family, Nelson believed in being there when others needed him.

Above all, Nelson was a man of deep Christian faith. His belief in Jesus Christ guided him throughout his life and gave him strength, purpose, and hope. While his passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, his family finds comfort in the faith that meant so much to him. They know this is not goodbye forever, but goodbye for now.

Nelson leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured simply in years. It can be seen in a marriage that lasted nearly 64 years, in three sons and the families they built, in grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him simply and lovingly as Pop Pop, in countless days spent hunting, fishing, and boating together, in a proud record of military and community service, and in a faith that remained with him throughout his life.

His family will forever remember his love, his devotion, his pride in them, the memories they created together, and the example he set.

Until we meet again, we take comfort in knowing that Nelson is home with his Lord and Savior, and that when our time comes, he will be waiting for us in Heaven.

He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
