Nathan “Dick” Richard Scarborough, age 87, of Selbyville, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his own home.

Dick was born in Baltimore, MD, on September 16, 1938, to the late Edmond Robinson Scarborough and the late Mabel Louise (Amrein) Scarborough.

For 28 years, Dick was a partner with Ward & Scarborough Insurance Company, retiring in 1997. While he was proud of his career and the many relationships he built throughout the years, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dick had a warm and caring spirit and treasured the time he spent with his family. His love, kindness, and presence brought comfort and joy to those around him, and the memories he created with his loved ones will remain in their hearts forever.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Edmond R. Scarborough, Jr., and his sister, Nancy Tyler.

He leaves behind his loving wife of almost 41 years, Carolyn “Tudie” A. (Amoss) Scarborough; his four children, Sheree DeSouza, Wendee McCue, Mary McLaughlin, and John W. Cairnes, II; and five beloved grandchildren.
