Nancy J. Goettel, 91, of Lewes, DE passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Nancy lived several places in Delaware County, Pennsylvania for more than sixty years. She grew up, raised her family, worked, and enjoyed all the Philadelphia area had to offer. Summers were spent at the Jersey shore in Sea Isle City and the Wildwoods. She lived in Lewes, Delaware for the past twenty-five years.

While attending Upper Darby High School she started working to help support the family. As a young adult she obtained a coveted position with Bell Telephone. After taking time to raise her family she reentered the workforce in the billing department at Lankenau Hospital. After ten years at Lankenau she went to work for doctor's offices, medical and dental, as the insurance coordinator until she retired - the first time.

Nancy moved to Lewes, Delaware in 1998 starting the next chapter of her life after her husband, Dan, passed away.  She wasn't retired long before she joined the Lewes Senior Center as the transportation coordinator serving the members with care and compassion for over 15 years before officially retiring at age 84.

Nancy joined the VFW Post 979 Auxiliary in Upper Darby, PA as a young adult. She was honored in 1976 with the Women of the Year award.  After Vietnam she felt compelled to help the returning wounded/disabled servicemen. She volunteered at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital where Nancy was known as the "Fruit Lady" visiting each room handing out fruit and letting them know someone cared. She also organized day trips for those who were able to leave the hospital. In Delaware she joined VFW Post 7447 of Rehoboth Beach and the American Legion Post 28 of Millsboro. She also belonged to the Elks of North Wildwood, NJ and the Lions Club of Aston, PA.

As a lifelong Episcopalian her faith in God provided strength and comfort during joyful and difficult times. She was a devoted member of The Church of the Holy Comforter in Drexel Hill, PA  and  St. Georges Chapel in Harbeson, DE.

Nancy's passion and enthusiasm for Philadelphia sports teams started as a ten-year-old when she figured out how to get to Shibe Park/Connie Mack stadium on her own to see the Phillies play. Her true love was the Philadelphia Flyers and the game of hockey. She was one of the original season ticketholders in 1967. As a member of the Flyers' Fan Club, she traveled to see many games in other US cities and Canada.  Nancy eagerly awaited the Army Navy football game every year, attending numerous games in person, always cheering for Army.

In recent years she enjoyed playing cards with her best friends, participating in the Lewis Senior Center activities, and looked forward to the visits from her daughter and grand doggie.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Daniel Goettel and her sister, Barbara Almond. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy E. Goettel.

A celebration of life will be at Noon on Saturday, July 29th at St. George's Chapel 20271 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson, Delaware where friends and family may gather from 11 am to noon.
