May Montgomery Carmean (née Campbell), 79, of Woodbine, Maryland, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. She was born on August 31, 1946, in Greenock, Scotland, the youngest of ten children and a proud sailor's daughter.

In early 1963, May met the love of her life, David Carmean, at a dance hall while he was serving in the United States Navy and stationed in Scotland.  Their connection was immediate and enduring. After their courtship, David proposed, and they were married in 1964. May came to the United States, and they built a life together filled with loyalty and unwavering love. She was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1970.

May attended cosmetology school, but her greatest devotion was to her family and her home. As a dedicated homemaker, she poured her creativity, care, and love into every part of her life. She was known for her generosity—donating often to numerous charities—and for her early years of service in her church community.

May had an artist's hands and a maker's soul. She loved gardening, stenciling, drawing, crafting, cooking, baking and taking on house projects with enthusiasm and pride. Her macaroni and cheese and steak pie became cherished family traditions—comforts that brought people together and made everyone feel welcome. She was also a devoted caretaker; when her children or family were sick, she would lovingly make chicken soup and jello, tending to them with the gentleness and steadiness only she could give. She adored listening to Patsy Cline and Rod Stewart, and she was always ready to dance and sing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Campbell and Josephine Montgomery; her beloved husband, David; all nine of her brothers and sisters; and her granddaughter, Gillian.

She is survived by her son, Gary Carmean (his wife Leslie), and her daughter, Dorothy Schaffer.  Gary is the father of four sons—Alex, James (his wife, Taylor, and their two children, Sullivan and Kerrigan), Tristan, and Jonathon.  Dorothy is the mother of two children—Owen and Emma—All brought her endless joy.

May lived with devotion, creativity, generosity, and strength. Her legacy of love will continue in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Carey's Cemetery, 43 Frankford Ave., Frankford, Delaware 19945.
