Mary Agnes (Mooney) Klein, age 95, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Bethany Beach, Delaware early Friday morning, December 6, 2024 surrounded by family.

Mary Agnes was born April 2, 1929 in the Bronx, New York. She attended Cathedral High School in Manhattan and later worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Westinghouse as an executive secretary.  She was active in the Young Catholic Worker movement, where she met her husband, Josef Klein, an exchange Fulbright Scholar from Germany at Manhattan College.

They married in 1955 and settled in Toronto, Canada.  Ten years later they moved to the Washington, DC area with seven children. They welcomed two more boys over the next few years.

Mary Agnes' husband, Joe, died in 1995. She continued working as a bookkeeper and bartender at Cedar Hill Inn until she retired to Bethany Beach Delaware in 1999. She enjoyed line dancing with the Ocean City recreation center, attending plays and concerts, family reunions, and entertaining many friends and relatives over the years.

Things she loved: Wine, whiskey, friends, family, dancing, parties, every social event & church!

Mary Agnes was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, Delaware, including the Sodality, St Vincent de Paul Society, and a founding member of the St. Ann's Bell Choir.  She served as a reading tutor for the children at John M. Clayton School and was active in several Red Hat Society groups.  Mary Agnes loved playing Mexican Train and Bonco and playing cards with her family and friends.  She was especially fond of singing Irish songs with her brothers, children and the whole Mooney clan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Annie Mooney; husband, Josef Franz Klein; brother, James Mooney and wife Bette and their son, Gerald Mooney and their granddaughter, Emily Domzalski; brother, Frank Mooney and wife Marilyn; brother Larry (Brother Jude) Mooney, CFC and brother-in-law, Ezio Pizziol.

She is survived by her nine children and their families, Barbara (Steven) Harper and their daughter, Catherine; Mary Anne (Mark) Rishebarger and their children, Michael Andrew and Angela; Rose Mary Klein; Michael Klein; Joseph Klein (Colleen) and their children, Josh and Dylan and grandchildren, Bryce and Liam; Maureen (Christopher) Trivers and their children, Cameron and Andrea; James (Sallie) Klein; Stephen (Jodi) Klein; Lawrence Klein and his son, David; sister-in-law, Evie Pizziol and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be time to visit with family members at 10 AM prior to Mass at 11 AM Friday morning December 13, 2024 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930. The service will be streamed.
