Mary Rose Embrey born on November 6, 1945, in Fairfield, Alabama to Tishie B. Sander (Ely) and Charlie Watters.  Mary was married to Robert Michael Embrey for 47 years until his death.

Mary, her mother and older brother, James Ely migrated to New Jersey around 1951. She attended local Newark schools and graduated from Weequahic High School in 1963, with an emphasis in business.

She remained an active participant in the Weequahic Alumni Association and with the Pioneer organization.

Mary worked as a secretary for a local dental business on Clinton Avenue in Irvington, New Jersey for several years before moving to the Verizon Telephone company for whom she worked for 35 years until her retirement in 2001.

She had a zest for life. She was a confident, assertive, and lovely woman. Her many interests included: travelling, shoes, pocketbooks, reading, crafts (counted cross stich, diamond painting and jewelry making), QVC and Amazon shopping, as well as being a Mary Kay representative in her younger years.

Anyone who know "Aunt Mary" fell in love with her.  You became the recipient of her grace, love, integrity, wisdom, generosity, and humor; often the humor meant being thrown out of her house when she felt it was time for you to leave.

Mary accepted Christ and was baptized.

She leaves behind to cherish so many memories, her devoted niece, Manjoniet Ely, and nephew, Eric Brown, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.

Matthew 9:20 - 22

Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."  Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed at that moment.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Mary's memory to Millsboro Middle School, school supplies fund.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 11AM at The Crossing 15183 Coastal hwy. Milton, DE. 19968, where friends and family may call after 10 AM.  Interment will be private.
