Marvin L. Councilman, age 84, of Selbyville, DE, formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his own home.

Known affectionately as “Marv,” he was born in Baltimore, MD, on March 25, 1942, to the late Clarence L. Councilman and the late Lucy Virginia (Ashburn) Councilman. He graduated from Southern High School in Baltimore, Class of 1960. Following high school, Marv proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965 while stationed in Germany.

Marv began his working career as a Baltimore City police officer before finding his calling in sales. He later worked as a sales representative for Reliable Liquors in Baltimore, a career he enjoyed until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Marv valued the friendships and brotherhood he found in the organizations that meant so much to him. He was deeply involved with the Masonic Brotherhood, including Washington Lodge #3 in Baltimore City, Boumi Temple, and the Tall Cedars. He also was a longtime member of the American Legion in Maryland and American Legion Post #24 in Dagsboro, DE. These organizations brought him many cherished friendships and wonderful memories.

Above all, Marv treasured his family. One of his greatest joys was coaching his daughter Amy’s softball teams in Riviera Beach, MD. He loved being there for her and proudly attended her sporting events, always cheering her on from the sidelines. His family was at the heart of his life, and the love and memories they shared will remain with them forever.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Councilman; his sister, June Kautsch; his half-brother, Raymond Clem and his half-sister, Eleanor Mowery.

Marv is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Catherine L. (Moreau) Councilman, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories; his daughter, Amy L. Councilman, and daughter-in-law Melissa Faulisi, of Columbia, MD and several nieces and nephews.

Marv will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his pride in his country, his commitment to his community, and the many friendships he made throughout his life. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE 19970. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon. Entombment will be held privately at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Marv’s name to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140.
