Marian L. Quillen, age 92, of Delmar, DE, formerly of Millville, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her own home.

Marian was born in Dagsboro, DE, on July 12, 1934, to the late William B. Davidson and Helen (Long) Davidson. She was a hardworking woman who devoted her life to providing for and caring for the people she loved. In her younger years, Marian vaccinated chickens and worked alongside her beloved husband, Sylvester “Elmer” Quillen, helping on the farm. She later worked in commercial clamming and, in her later years, spent many years cleaning at Sea Colony in Bethany Beach, DE. Whatever work she took on, Marian approached it with determination, pride, and a deep commitment to her family.

More than anything, Marian was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver. She had a generous heart and was always there for those who needed her. Her family will forever remember her loving nature, her willingness to care for others, and the warmth she brought into their lives.

Marian found joy in the simple things. She loved crocheting, especially making beautiful afghans for the people she cared about. She was known for her excellent cooking and the love she put into every meal. She enjoyed being near the water and also loved going to the slots. And, of course, there were her two beloved cats, Ginger and Trudy, whom Marian affectionately called her “babies.” She loved and cared for them deeply, and they were a cherished part of her home and her heart. Their companionship brought her comfort, happiness, and countless moments of joy.

Above all, Marian’s greatest joy was her family. She spent much of her life caring for the people and animals she loved, always making sure they were looked after and never lacked for love. Her nurturing spirit extended to everyone fortunate enough to be part of her life.

In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sylvester “Elmer” Quillen; her daughter, Brenda Hickey; and her five siblings, Margaret Morris, William Howard Davidson, Russell Davidson, Eugene Davidson, and Amelia Lynch.

She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly: her five children, Eugene E. Quillen and his wife, Nancy Quillen; Marilyn Reuter; Donna Hitchens and her husband, Sam Hitchens; Wanda Johnson and her husband, Henry Clay Johnson, IV; and Rachael Loveland and her husband, Chris Loveland. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Marian’s life was one of hard work, love, devotion, and family. She cared for so many throughout her life, and her kindness, strength, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind not only a family who adored her, but a lifetime of memories, traditions, stories, and love that will be carried forward for generations. And for those who knew how much she loved her “babies,” Ginger and Trudy will always be a special part of the story of Marian’s loving heart.

A visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, DE 19945. A funeral service will begin at 1 PM, with interment to follow at St. George’s Cemetery in Clarksville, DE.
