Lois K. Cunning of Milton, DE passed away suddenly on February 5, 2025.

Lois was born in Darlington, PA to Ila and Harry Cunning and was raised with her brother Lennie.

Lois was predeceased in death by her mother Ila; father, Harry Cunning and brother, Leonard Thomas. Lois was also predeceased by Ben Kupper her long time partner and the love of her life.  She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sally Thomas as well as numerous cousins and friends who became family.

Lois went to Wilma Boyd Career School to learn the travel industry. After graduation she was hired by Amtrak on December 10, 1973 and she moved to Bensalem, PA to begin her career. She held various jobs in various locations, including Bensalem, PA, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA, Los Angeles, CA, returned to DC and retired from Wilmington, DE. She started in administration but after going to school in the evenings obtaining her B.S. she was promoted rapidly in the Operations Department. Eventually Lois went on to obtain her MBA while working in California. She ended her career back on the east coast in Wilmington, DE where she retired on March 1, 2018 as the Senior Director Metrics and Compliance.

Anyone who worked with Lois can attest to her incredible work ethic and commitment to always do right by the company. She served on several high level committees and won several awards while employed.

Lois was truly a good person with an incredibly kind heart. She cared so much about her family and friends and would do all in her power to help those in need in any way possible.

She was an avid Steelers fan and loved to go to the casino with her friends. She enjoyed live music and dancing and had more energy than a teenager.

After retirement Lois was thrilled to be able to stay home with her kitties. She was the best cat mother anyone would meet. She took in strays, had them treated for their varying conditions and ended up keeping them until she could re-home them. She loved all animals but had a special infinity for cats.

Lois busied herself when she retired by helping her friends with projects, visiting friends, travel and delivering meals on wheels. She went on several incredible trips with her "travel friends" whom she has been friends with for 50 years. She also volunteered at the Milton Theater and was a volunteer election official. Just recently she took a class in conversational Spanish so she could communicate with some of the people she delivered meals to who spoke Spanish as their first language. Lois's kindness and thoughtfulness was evident every day through her volunteer work.

Lois had strong convictions and never backed down when it came to helping and fighting for the underserved. She cared deeply for the less fortunate and worked tirelessly at trying to improve this world. She was an inspiration to many and has changed lives for the better.

Lois was known for responding to invitations, trips, etc., saying " I'm up for anything. I'll sleep when I die."

At Lois's request there will be no funeral. However there will be a Celebration of Life scheduled in the coming weeks. The details will be posted once it is confirmed.
