Kevin Olsewski passed away too young at 68 after a tough battle with cancer.

Beloved brother, cherished uncle and adored husband. He was clever, spirited, independent and hard-working. Kev could tell a great story and be very entertaining.

Kevin was born and raised in Farmingdale, NY and was also a longtime resident. He graduated from Farmingdale High School in the Class of 1974. He later went on to work at Grumman where he had a long and productive career of over 37 years. He loved working at Grumman and enjoyed numerous accomplishments and established many great friendships. Kevin was famous for coining the phrase "better is the enemy of good" to try to counter the often-misguided attempts of new management to "improve" how things were done when a questionable decision was being proposed. Timeless wisdom to this day.

Kevin also captained many of the after-work Grumman softball teams and experienced the joy of winning multiple league championships. After many of these evening softball games he enjoyed going out to happy hour afterwards for a few drinks with his friends.

In his free time Kevin loved to go fishing, boating and shooting at the range. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV and was an avid Mets, Islanders and Giants fan. Kevin was a longtime partial season ticket holder for the Mets and Islanders and attended Game 4 of the 1983 Stanley Cup Finals where the Islanders beat the Oilers to win their 4th straight Stanley Cup. Other interests included travel and hiking and biking in Cape Henlopen State Park. Kevin also loved to BBQ and make fires in the fire pit and his wood stove. Kevin made the best BBQ chicken and steaks – true culinary gems to those fortunate enough to participate in the dining experience. He would often say as a meal was being started to "whale it down"! No fire in the fire pit was big enough for Kev! During one exceptionally huge fire it was said that you could probably see it from the International Space Station (and that was likely true).

Kevin also loved muscle cars and driving fast. His first car was a 1970 Duster with mag wheels and a 318 V8. He sped around the streets of Farmingdale and the college campus at SUNY Farmingdale. He later bought a 1972 Firebird that was the epitome of early 1970's muscle car cool. He drove the Firebird hard and fast – was able to get many the speeding ticket. He even took it cross country to California and back when he was sent on assignment to Miramar Naval Base in San Diego for Grumman in the early 1980's. He followed up this love for muscle cars in the later years with a 2006 Dodge Charger with a V8 Hemi that he has to this day.

After retiring from Grumman Kevin moved down to Dagsboro Delaware. He loved the area and being close to the water and Bethany Beach. He decided on a second career and joined the Town of Bethany Beach in the parking department. He worked his way up from parking attendant to the Parking Director in his 8 years with the town.

He also met the love of his life in Delaware – his wife Carol. One of his few regrets is they did not meet sooner and have more time together.

He leaves behind his wife Carol, brothers Doug and Roland, sister-in-law Lori, nephews Alex and Tyler. His delightful personality, positive energy, spirit and generosity will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, DE 19970, where friends and family may gather after 10 a.m. An additional memorial service will be held for Kevin in Farmingdale, New York at a later date.
