Judith Anne Prescott Eger, 85, died on Saturday, August 8 after a brief illness. She lived her last days with her signature humor, concern for others and strong determination to live her final days on her own terms - traits that she carried throughout her life.

She was born on September 15, 1940 in Norwood, Massachusetts to Winthrop Edward Prescott and Mary (Lathrop) Gillett Prescott. The family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina as a young girl when her father was transferred there for his job with Kendall Company of Boston. While in Charlotte, she attended elementary school and became a beloved big sister to Linda Jane and Richard. In 1952, the family moved back north to Wellesley, Massachusetts where she attended junior and senior high school. She graduated from Wellesley High School and went on to Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Virginia to receive an Associate Degree in Retailing in 1960.

She had two children, Mark William and Laura Anne, and the family settled in Arlington, Virginia.

She lived in the Washington, D.C. area and was professionally accomplished in her 25-year career as a real estate associate broker in Virginia, Washington D.C., and Delaware. That she became lifetime friends of many of her clients attests to the warmth and humor that naturally attracted people to her. She moved to Lewes in 2005 where she became an active member of the Lewes community. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry and in many other of its programs. She was a Master Gardener, and shared her botannical knowledge as a member of Lewes in Bloom and the Lewes Community Gardens. In the last years of her life, she created a beautifully designed garden outside her apartment complex for all the residents to enjoy. Her keen sense of aesthetics was evident in her art and pottery collections as well as in her flower arrangements, created with her usual flourish for the church, family and friends. She had many other interests including archaeology and participated in several archaeological digs in the D.C. area. Most of all, she is remembered by her family and many friends for her kindness, compassion, humor and fun-loving spirit, the latter of which provides the basis for many funny, and unforgettable, stories.

She leaves behind her son, Mark William Eger and his wife Tracee, her grandchildren, Brooke Eger and Luke Eger of San Diego, California, her sister Linda Prescott and husband Michael Katzenberg of Middlesex, Vermont, her nephew Tyler Katzenberg and his wife Valerie Providenza, her niece Chelsea Katzenberg and her husband Randall Wallace, her nieces Emily Allaire, Caitlin Prescott and Eliza Fiaschetti, the children of her brother, Richard, who died in 2000, as well as his widow, Doriann Prescott.

A service in her memory will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on August 22 at 10 a.m., with a reception at the church following. Internment of her ashes will be conducted at 12:30 at Pilottown Cemetery in Lewes.
