Joseph (Joe) L. Sellmayer, 66, of Millville, DE passed away suddenly at his home on 05/22/2023.

Joe was the son of Jane and Louis Sellmayer, and was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. After graduating from Loyola Blakefield High School in 1974, Joe went on to Mount Saint Mary's College, where he met his future wife, Kate. Upon graduating in 1978, Joe embarked on a long and successful career with Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals, while also earning a Master's Degree from Loyola University in Baltimore.

Joe and Kate married in 1983, established their home in Catonsville, MD and raised two children. Affectionately referred to as "Big Joe" by his family, friends, and neighborhood community, he had an infectious & bigger than life personality that made you feel special from the moment he met you.

After raising their family and eventual career retirement in 2017, Joe and Kate transitioned to the beaches of Delaware in the community of Millville By The Sea. His love for the beach, passion for fishing, animated storytelling and YETI cooler full of cold natural lights on a sunny beach day made him the ultimate pirate. On days where he wasn't "catching what's running" you may have run into him at Bear Trap Dunes, where he immensely enjoyed working both part time and golfing for the last seven years. Joe was predeceased by his mother, Jane Beck, and his father, Louis Sellmayer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Kate Sellmayer (nee Sharrocks), daughter Liz Edwards (Mike) of Richmond, VA, son Will Sellmayer (Jenna) of Catonsville, MD, sister Peggy Rickter (Bruce) of Baltimore, MD, brother Louis Sellmayer (Debbie) of Baltimore, MD, his two cherished grandsons Charlie and Leo, and multiple beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for friends and family in Delaware will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 4-8 pm at Bear Trap Dunes. An additional Celebration of Life will be held at Patapsco Valley State Park on June 16th from 2pm-6pm.
