John P. Gately, 75, of Millsboro, DE, passed away on October 2, 2023. He was born on August 16, 1948, in Jersey City, NJ. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always cherishing time spent with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

John had a passion for sports, particularly the NY Yankees. He loved collecting sports memorabilia and was known as a walking encyclopedia of sports information. His knowledge and enthusiasm for sports were unmatched, and he enjoyed sharing his passion with his family and friends.

John is survived by his loving wife, Mary, of 54 years, his daughters Noreen Omelczuk and Dina Liona, and their husbands Eddy and Joe, respectively. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Nicolette, Alexandra, Kyle, Julie, and Eric. John is also survived by his sister, Patricia Kirchner and her husband Pat, as well as many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John (Pete) and Nora Gately, and his brother Kevin Gately.

The loss of John leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished, and his passion for sports will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have crossed paths with him.

A private memorial service was held for immediate family members.
