John "Jack" F. Gallagher, age 86, of Ocean View DE formerly of Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 21, 2025 in the comfort of his own home.

Jack was born in Philadelphia, PA and was raised in the Germantown area of Philly on July 26, 1938 son of the late James Gallagher and the late Mary Ann (Fries) Gallagher.  He went to Holy Ghost High School in Bensalem, PA and also received his undergraduate from La Salle College in Philadelphia.  Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1959-1961.

Jack taught high school English in several Philadelphia High Schools and was the Dean of Discipline until his retirement from Northeast High School in 2001 after 36 years of service.  Following his retirement from the school system, Jack worked for the IRS for another 10 years as a tax examiner.

Jack was a faithful Catholic and loved his parish St. Ann Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, DE.  In his free time, Jack enjoyed boating and taking all of his family and friends out on the water; however, above all else, he loved time spent with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Gallagher, William Gallagher, Joseph Gallagher and Ann Boyce.  Jack is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Florence E. (Tomlinson) Gallagher; his four children, Susan Weiswasser, Kimberly Fardone, John Gallagher and his wife, Micaela and Bill Gallagher and his wife, Colleen; 10 grandchildren, Jerome, Christina, Jessica, Liam, Brynn, John John, Ireland, Dylan, Michael and Dakota; his brother, Michael Gallagher; a sister, Marie Leneghan and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM on Friday, March 7, 2025 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8100 Colfax St., Philadelphia, PA 19136, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Jack's name to St. Ann's Catholic Church Choir, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.
