John L. Barnes, age 77, of Selbyville, DE formerly of Hopewell Junction, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at his home with his loving wife by his side.

John was born in White Plains, NY on June 3, 1947 son of the late John L. Barnes, Sr. and the late Dorothy (Taylor) Barnes.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

John retired as a phone technician with Verizon after 33 years of service.  He loved working outside in his garden and riding on his tractor.  John was loved and respected by his fellow workers, friends and family.

John was always willing to do what was needed to help his family and friends whether it be plumbing, carpentry or electrical work.  He was an active member of his church and always ready to serve.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Rosemarie (DeMichele) Barnes; a sister, Marie Woodward; a sister-in-law, Igina Bobson and her husband, Paul; a nephew, Jacob Bobson and three nieces Sarah Rose Bobson, Barbara Balk and Christine Taniguchi.

A celebration of John's life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the Selbyville Assembly of God Church, 36360 Pepper Rd., Selbyville, DE 19975.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in John's name to the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge – American Cancer Society, 110 W. Laurel Ave., Cheltenham, PA  19012.
