Jo Ann Melson, age 84, of Millsboro, DE formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.

Jo Ann was born in Montgomery, AL on April 10, 1942 daughter of the late Walter Jackson Teel and the late Grace Ann (Harper) Teel. She was proud to have completed her teaching degree from the University of South Carolina later in her life.

She worked as a secretary for most of her life and also did some substitute teaching after completing her educational studies. However, she found great enjoyment as working as a docent at the Zwannendael Museum in Lewes, DE. Jo Ann enjoyed education the public about the history of Lewes, DE.

Jo Ann enjoyed gardening, traveling, sewing and quilting. She enjoyed quilting some much that she joined the Sussex Quilt Guild. She was a member of the Order of Redmen where she had served a term as the Great Pocahontas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Melson in 2019 and five siblings. She is survived by her two children, Dorothy Ann Melson Lloyd and her husband, John L. Lloyd, Sr. and Michael Melson and his wife, Donna Melson; a sister, Shirley Jean Melson of Millsboro, DE; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Jo Ann’s name to Wilmington VA Medical Center, Voluntary Services Office, 1601 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.
