Jeryl "Jerry" Clyde Greenawalt, age 89, of Millsboro, Delaware, formerly of West Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Jerry was born in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, on August 4, 1936, the son of the late Clyde Worth Greenawalt and Ruth (Huntsberger) Greenawalt.  He was a proud graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1959, earning a degree in general engineering.  Jerry served his country honorably in the United States Army Airborne for six years, with 2 years in Okinawa Japan.  His military service shaped the personal code by which he lived his life: Country, Honor, and Duty.

Following his military service, Jerry enjoyed a long and successful career as an engineer, working for GE, Timex, Burndy, Proto Mold, and finally Presto Plastics. A devoted provider, he worked tirelessly to support his family.  After "retiring" to Delaware, Jerry returned to work at Giant in Millsboro and Lowe's in Millsboro, where he took great pride in helping customers find the right solutions for their home improvement projects.

Jerry was a founding member of the Lakeside Homeowners Association and a member of AMVETS Post 2 in Millsboro, Delaware.  He was happiest when tinkering in his workshop or crafting beautiful handmade woodworking pieces for family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his four sisters: Madeline Beard, Treva Miller, Velma Hughes, and Jean Trout.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 66 years, Elisabeth "Betty" (Green) Greenawalt; his three children, Jeffrey Greenawalt and his wife Tammy of Florence, South Carolina, Mark Greenawalt of Milford, Connecticut, and Suzanne Greenawalt Esposito and her husband Francis of Sutton, New Hampshire, great-granddaughter Brianna Esposito; two grandchildren, Joshua Greenawalt and his wife Kristen, Melissa Carrubba and her husband Frank, and two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Logan Carrubba; his sister, Brenda Smiley; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on March 7th at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966 with visitation starting at 10 a.m. and service to follow at 11 a.m.  Welcome to gather at Sussex AMVETS Post 2.   Interment will be held private.
