Janet E. Murphy, age 86, of Georgetown, DE, formerly of Aston, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Cadia Renaissance in Millsboro, DE.
Janet was born in Philadelphia, PA, on October 14, 1939, to the late Irving H. Scott and Bertha Marie (Snyder) Scott. She spent 35 years working as an administrative assistant for Boeing, where she met the love of her life, Timothy Murphy. Janet and Tim shared 42 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in February. After retiring from Boeing, Janet devoted her time to caring for her mother during her declining health, always putting the needs of those she loved before her own.
Janet was a warm, outgoing person who found joy in the simple things in life and in spending time with others. She loved bowling and looked forward to her time at the Millsboro Senior Center, where she enjoyed playing bingo and sharing laughs and good times with friends.
Janet had a special gift for crocheting and took great pride in creating beautiful things with her own hands. She lovingly crocheted newborn caps, hats, and gloves for the elementary school, and made intricate baby blankets for her family. Each piece was made with patience, care, and love, and her handmade gifts brought warmth and comfort to many people. Her family will always treasure the love that was woven into every stitch.
She also enjoyed making ceramics and had a special place in her heart for animals. Janet dearly loved her cat and was happiest when surrounded by the people and things she cared about.
Janet will be remembered for her kind and giving nature, her sense of fun, and the love she showed through the many things she did for others. Whether she was crocheting a blanket for a loved one, enjoying a game of bingo, spending time with family, or simply sharing a laugh, Janet had a way of bringing warmth and happiness to those around her. The beautiful things she created and, more importantly, the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting part of her family’s memories.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Timothy Murphy, and her four brothers, Donald Scott, Allan Scott, Ralph Scott, and Steve Scott.
She is survived by her two sisters, Doris Trescher and Audrey Calabrese and her husband, Tom, as well as several nieces and nephews, who will carry her memory and the love she shared with them in their hearts.
A visitation will be held from 1–2 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE. A prayer service will begin at 2 PM.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008.
