James R. Henry, Sr., age 90, of Ocean View, DE, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on November 19, 1935, James was the son of the late John F. Henry and Mary (Jankowski) Henry. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School and went on to build a long and successful career in the sheet metal construction industry. He worked as a fabricator and roofer, was a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 19, and later owned and operated his own roofing business, A. Henry, Inc.

James was a hardworking man who took pride in what he did and in providing for his family. He was also a true outdoorsman who found great joy in fishing and hunting. Some of his happiest days were spent at the Indian River Inlet, where he made regular trips to fish and enjoy the peace and beauty of the outdoors.

But more than anything, James loved his family. He treasured the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and those who knew him will remember the love, stories, and memories he shared with them. His family was at the heart of his life, and his presence will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlene Dickerson Henry, in 2017, and his daughter, Terri Ann Henry, in 2010.

He leaves behind his four children, James R. Henry, Jr.; Pamela Woods (Sharon Wise); Kathleen Tacconelli (Joseph); and Karen Lundin; seven grandchildren, Megan, Brandon, Matthew, Cecelia, Taylor, Sara, and Samuel; and three great-grandchildren, Orion, Nicholas, and Charlotte.

James leaves behind a lifetime of hard work, cherished memories, and, most importantly, a family who loved him dearly. He will be remembered for the life he lived, the people he loved, and the many memories he gave to those fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of James’s life will be held at a later date.
