Herman G. Oberg, III, lovingly known to most as "Herm," age 82, of Ocean View, Delaware, formerly of Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family.

Herm was born on January 3, 1944, in Chester, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Herman G. Oberg, II, and the late Ethel Lillian (Gay) Oberg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joann Toner, in 2017.

Herm dedicated more than 30 years of service to ConocoPhillips Refinery before retiring in 2004. Following retirement, he and his wife made their home in Delaware, where Herm embraced his love of fishing. He became an avid fisherman and found great joy spending time on or near the water, appreciating the peace and beauty of his surroundings.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He held his military service close to his heart and remained an active and proud member of Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234, where he cherished the camaraderie of his fellow veterans and many dear friends.

Herm will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and the warmth he brought into every room. Those who met him were instantly drawn to his kindness and easygoing spirit. Above all, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud and adoring grandfather who treasured every moment spent with his family.

Herm is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary A. Oberg; his two sons, Chuck Smith (Alicia) and Jason Smith (Pamela); and his cherished grandchildren, Isabella (Matthew), Nathan, Ashlyn, and Charlie as well as many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Herm's legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
