Henry Joseph Fiedler, Jr., age 99, passed away on September 1, 2024. Henry was born January 28, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Henry J. Fiedler, Sr. and Rose Charvat Fiedler. A WWII U.S. Navy veteran, he fought his way across the Pacific to Japan. Returning home after the war, he married Mary Alice Gentry with whom he shared 69 glorious years before she passed away in 2016. He is survived by sons Henry (Patricia), Mark (Marcia, deceased), and Russell (Dolores), grandchildren Michelle, Mark II, Jillian, Olivia, Derek, Kirstin, and great-grandchildren.

Henry was dedicated to his family, his friends, his church, his community and his railroad career. He was a no-nonsense "meat and potatoes" man who could fix almost anything. Henry started out with the Pennsylvania Railroad in Baltimore and retired at 62 from New York's Metro North commuter system. He then enjoyed a well-deserved retirement in Ocean View, Delaware, where family and friends would gather to enjoy his company and be regaled by his stories. While there, he became a member of what became known as his Giant Food Family. He served as an usher at the church of St. Ann in Bethany Beach, and enjoyed outings with the Cheer Center. Ever proud of his WWII service, he was an active member of the Ocean View VFW Post 7234, the Dagsboro American Legion Post 24, and the Fleet Reserve Association in Annapolis, Maryland.

We honor Henry's life with a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, September 25, at 11 am at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway (Rt. 26), Bethany Beach, Delaware, where family and friends may call beginning at 10 am. A reception will follow immediately at the church hall. Burial will be Thursday, September 26 at 10 am at the Delaware Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Delaware.
