Gwendolyn H. Dukes, age 76, of Dagsboro, DE went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 5, 2025 while surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her own home.

She was born in Lewes, DE on January 25, 1949 daughter of the late George William Hudson and the late Grace (Wingate) Hudson.  Gwen was a graduate of Lord Baltimore Class of 1967 and attended Winthrop College in South Carolina.  She eventually met and married her husband, soulmate and best friend, Harry H. Dukes, III.

Gwen and Harry started Eastern Shore Poultry in Georgetown, DE where she served as a partner in the business, executive secretary and "relationship manager".  Her love of people and putting their needs before her own suited Gwen very well as she built lasting relationship with employees and vendors.  She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi International Omega Chapter where a true sisterhood and lasting friendships were made.

Gwen enjoyed going to the beach, skiing, going antique shopping with friends, crocheting, doing needlepoint and quilting.  Gwen supported her family's endeavors including going with Adel to horse competitions where she got to know all of the vendors with her bubbly personality.  She was a sports fan and loved attending University of Delaware football games with Harry and friends.  She also loved watching basketball rooting for her beloved Duke Blue Devils.  Gwen was a member of St. George's United Methodist Church in Clarksville, DE where she faithfully attended until her decline in health.

Although she was physically limited to what she could do the last several years, she had a positive attitude always thinking and caring about others.  The family is grateful for the love and care that she has received from her caregivers and Delaware Hospice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Adam Harry Dukes.  She is survived by her loving husband of almost 56 years, Harry H. Dukes, III; two daughters, Amy Dukes Brothers and her husband, Keith of Bethany Beach, DE and Adel Dukes of Dagsboro, DE; two grandsons, Alfred Dukes and Hudson Brothers.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, DE 19945, where a funeral service to celebrate Gwen's life will begin at 12:30 PM.  Interment will follow at St. George's Cemetery in Clarksville, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions in Gwen's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
