Gerald A. Steen, 89, of Dagsboro, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Born in Harlingen, Texas, on February 13, 1937, Gerald was raised in the close-knit community of Dagsboro, Delaware. He was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Steen and Catherine Emma (Cannon) Steen. A 1955 graduate of John M. Clayton High School, Gerald went on to dedicate 34 years of service to Delmarva Power, where he worked in a variety of positions at the Dagsboro power plant before retiring.

Gerald lived a life defined by faith, hard work, and devotion to family. As a faithful member of Frankford Community Church, he found strength, fellowship, and lasting friendships among a congregation that became like a second family. His quiet kindness, steady presence, and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures: casting a line into the water, cheering on local stock car racers, and taking great pride in a neatly mowed lawn. Whether spending time outdoors or gathering with family, Gerald appreciated the blessings of each day and the people who shared it with him.

Above all, Gerald's greatest pride and accomplishment was his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, a caring father, a proud grandfather, and a cherished great-grandfather. His wisdom, gentle nature, and unwavering love will continue to guide and inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 68 years, Kathleen (Rogers) Steen; his son, David Steen and wife Wanda of Frankford, Delaware; his daughter, Susan Timmons and husband Charlie of Millsboro, Delaware; Five grandchildren, Kyle Timmons and wife Pauline of Dagsboro, Delaware, Sarah Furbush and husband Seth of Bear, Delaware, and Kristen Furry and husband Adam of Milford, Delaware; Nathan McCabe and Dustin McCabe, both of Millsboro, Delaware; and four great-grandchildren, Calvin Timmons, Owen Furbush, Ashten Furry, and Gavin Furry.

He is also survived by two brothers, Marvin Steen and wife Beverly of Ocean Pines, Maryland, and Ron Steen and wife Tempe of Bethany Beach, Delaware, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, Delaware 19945. A funeral service celebrating Gerald's life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
