Obituary for Frederick Charles Johnson, "Charlie"

February 16, 1945 – December 4, 2024

Frederick Charles Johnson, "Charlie" passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024 at the Beebe Hospital Center in Lewes after a short illness. He was born February 16, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Robert Norbert Johnson and Mary Gossman Johnson. Charlie attended Baltimore City schools and graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnical Institute in Baltimore and St. Francis College of Pennsylvania. While in college he served in the Maryland Army National Guard from 1965-1971. After graduation Charlie entered the St. Francis Seminary in Loretto, PA and served with them for 10 years. After leaving the seminary, Charlie worked for a short time in retail before beginning his career with the Internal Revenue Service where he worked for over 25 years retiring in 2010. On October 13, 2013 he married his life partner, Terry Tucker in Havre de Grace, MD.  Together they built a home in Aberdeen, MD and subsequently moved to Millsboro, DE in 2016, where they were active in the Independence community.

Charlie loved to travel and with Terry they made many trips and cruises to the Caribbean, west coast and to several European countries. He especially enjoyed their recent trip to Greece and the Greek islands. At home he enjoyed playing pool, surfing the web on his iPad and walking on the beach. He loved to cook and enjoyed fixing meals for family and friends especially trying different breakfast casseroles.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his husband, Terry Tucker, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ronald and Mary Kay Tucker of Elmira, NY, three nieces: Kelly (Carissa) Tucker of Reddick, IL, Emily (Ben) Hagan of Elmira, NY, and Erin (Ben) Robedee of Syracuse, NY.  Also survived by nephews Robert Johnson of Gettysburg, PA and Brian Johnson of Baltimore, eight grandnieces and three grandnephews and cousin Wayne Goeller with his wife Anita of Olney, MD.

Per Charlie's wishes, there will be no calling hours.  A private service for family will be held at a later date at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro followed by a celebration of life gathering.
