Francis John Slahetka, 90 of Bethany Beach, DE passed away on October 29, 2025 in his home. Frank was born August 5, 1935 and grew up in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Francis Slachetka and Irene Sniegowski.

Frank graduated from St. Blaze Grammar School in 1948 and Argo Community High School in 1952.  After graduation, he attended DePaul University (Chicago, IL) for two years and served an Internship at Elixis Brothers Hospital (Chicago, IL). He earned a Bachelor's Degree in microbiology from the University of Maryland as well as certifications in Medical Technology (MT), in Cytopathology (CT), and with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Frank relocated to the state of Maryland and worked as Director of the Clinical Laboratory at Holy Cross Hospital (Silver Spring, MD) from 1963-1991. After 28 years, he retired from Holy Cross but continued to work for 6 more years at Tidal Health Hospital (Salisbury, MD) in the cytopathology department.

Frank also served 5 years in the Marine Corps and achieved the rank of Sergeant.  He's been a Member of the VFW 7234 here in Bethany Beach, DE and remained active throughout his retirement, enjoying golfing, boating, fishing, scuba/snorkeling, walking, and running.

Frank is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Mary Frances Sieja Slahetka.  He and his wife are survived by his six children – Eli Glenn (Jon), Tom Slahetka (Alicia), Cathy Cornell (Dan), Mary Long (Dale), Ann Winklbauer (Kevin), and Marla Ord (Mike) – as well as 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Frank's name to Mason Dixon VFW Post #7234, 29265 Marshy Hope Way, Ocean View, DE 19970.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 starting at 10am at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE.  A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11 am followed by a small reception in St. Ann's Delaney Hall.
