Elaine C. Breasure, age 84, of Ocean View, Delaware, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family in the comfort of her home.

Born in Ocean View on November 23, 1941, Elaine was the daughter of the late Ernest Hitchens and Martha (Hickman) Hitchens. A lifelong resident of the community she cherished. She graduated from Lord Baltimore High School with the Class of 1959 before attending Cosmetology School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she graduated in 1960.

For four decades, Elaine owned and operated her beauty shop in Ocean View, building not only a successful business but also lasting friendships with generations of clients. Yet, her greatest passions were her faith and her family. A devoted member of Ocean View Church of Christ, Elaine faithfully served in countless ministries throughout the years. Her gift for music became a cornerstone of her service as she sang in the choir and praise team, directed the junior choir, and shared her talents on the piano and organ. She also participated in Sisters in Service (SIS), taught Sunday School and Junior Church, and joyfully supported Vacation Bible School through its music ministry.

Music was woven into the fabric of Elaine’s life. She was a member of The Chapelettes, a beloved gospel trio that included Anita Evans and Dee Bennett. Together they traveled throughout the region, sharing their faith through song and touching the lives of many.

Above all, Elaine treasured her family. She delighted in following the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling near and far, including trips to South Dakota, to cheer them on from the sidelines. Her home was a gathering place filled with warmth, laughter, and love. Whether hosting holiday celebrations at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter or welcoming family and friends for Memorial Day and Labor Day barbecues, Elaine’s generous hospitality created treasured memories that will endure for generations.

Though her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion she leaves behind.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 64 years, Wayne C. Breasure in 2025; a grandson, Clinton James “Jamie” Schilling and a brother, Roger Hitchens. Elaine is survived by her two children Sherry Schilling of Ocean View, DE and Steve Breasure and his wife, Tracy of New Bern, NC; four grandsons, Matthew Blackburn and his fiancé, Whitney Perry of Chesapeake, VA, Jacob Schilling of Kissimmee, FL, Andrew Breasure of Charlotte, NC and Evan Breasure of Charlotte, NC and three great grandchildren, Luke Blackburn, Brooks Blackburn and Clara Blackburn.

She is also survived by a special niece, Stephanie Wilkinson of Ocean View, DE; a special nephew, Dale Hitchens of Selbyville, DE and her brothers and sisters-in-law, who faithfully came to visit.

A visitation will be held from 11 AM until 1 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at the Ocean View Church of Christ, 55 West Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970, where a funeral service will begin at 1 PM. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
