Donald David Carey, Jr., affectionately known as Donnie, passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on June 8, 2025, in Frankford, DE, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 1, 1951, in Lewes, DE, Donnie was the son of the late Donald David Carey, Sr. and Margaret Elinor (Wolfgang) Carey.

Donnie was a proud graduate of Millsboro High School, Class of 1970, marking the first year of consolidation. His career was marked by his role as a special project manager for Sea Colony in the 1970s, superintendent for Sheraton, Gateway, and Ocean Club in the 1980s, and as the owner of Carey's Painting from the 1990s until 2020.

He was a cherished member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Clarksville, DE. In his younger years, Donnie enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Elvis Presley. As he grew older, his love for animals blossomed, and he found joy in feeding and naming the wildlife in his backyard.

Donnie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathy S. (Marvel) Carey, and his sister, Sharon Shields. He is survived by his sons, Shane Allen Murray of Dagsboro, DE, and Donald D. Carey, III, and his wife, Leslie, of Frankford, DE; his granddaughter, Lara K. Carey of Baltimore, MD; his sisters, Jackie Timmons and her husband, Gerald, of Dagsboro, DE, and Denise Rust and her husband, George, of Millsboro, DE; his brother, Richard L. Carey and his wife, Diane, of Selbyville, DE; his grand dog and constant companion, Toby, and a host of extended family members.

A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood, DE.
