Diane Coleen Simpson, 71, of Ocean View, Delaware, passed away on September 3, 2026, following a difficult journey with Alzheimer's disease. After several very hard years, she is finally at peace.

Diane was born on January 9, 1955, in Takoma Park, Maryland. She graduated from Southern High School in 1973 and went on to earn her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Maryland. She began her career in the public library in Anne Arundel County before joining the U.S. Supreme Court, where she worked for 22 years and specialized in rare books, one of the great passions of her life. She was the head of Technical Services at the time of her retirement in 2011. She spent her life in Maryland until she retired, and then lived in Oak Island, North Carolina, followed by Ocean View, Delaware.

Outside of her work, Diane found joy in reading every kind of book, spending time with friends and family, baking, trying new restaurants, spending time at the beach, and scrapbooking. One of the greatest joys of her life came in 2015, when she became "Uma" to her first grandchild. She cherished the time she spent with her 3 grandsons, and her presence will be deeply missed by them.

Diane is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Tom Simpson, who cared for and supported her until the final weeks of her life; her father, Robert Haug; her son, Robert Talbot; her daughter, Erin Smith; her grandsons, Judah Budman, Bodhi Smith, and Austin Smith; and her sister, Dawn Friello.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Haug.

A celebration of life will be held with immediate family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Diane's name.
