On September 24, Deborah Simmons died suddenly, bravely losing a brief battle with ovarian cancer. Deborah and her husband, Daniel moved to the Seagrass Plantation Community in Dagsboro, May 2013. They had previously lived in the Baltimore area.
Deborah was a member of the Women's Civic Club of Bethany Beach, an active member of the Cripple Creek Country Club and was always seen enjoying herself and dancing at the annual Delaware Breast Cancer's Pink on the Patio event at Cripple Creek.
Deborah was born in May 1957, outside Baltimore, Maryland and went to public schools. She began her career in retail management. The last two decades of Deborah's career were spent working as the Business Manager for Continental Search, the recruiting firm she and her husband founded in 1996.
Deborah was actively involved in charity work in Baltimore for eight years with Pets on Wheels, visiting the Alzheimer's units at a local nursing home. She received special recognition for her charity work from both houses of the Maryland Legislature and both house of the US Congress. Her love for animals led to her rescue of 4 dogs over the last 35 years.
Deborah loved her life at the beach, enjoying walking her dogs at all the parks, her yoga classes, the Country Club events, her friends and even being aggravated by golf occasionally.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Daniel Simmons, her brother Stephen Pross of Baltimore and dozens of friends in Seagrass Plantation and Cripple Creek who became her cherished family.
Deborah, though modest, would light up any room she entered and was known for making deep friendships with people of all ages. The outpouring of support from the community has shown how much she was loved.
Having been a breast cancer survivor, Deborah's favorite charity was the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition in Sussex County. Contributions, in lieu of flowers can be made in her name via https://debreastcancer.org/gift/dedications_tributes_and_memorials or to the Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown https://bvspca.org/donate/ .
A private celebration of her life will be held at Cripple Creek in early October.
