David Leroy Mitchell, of Frankford, DE, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 at the age of 73.

Leroy was born the only child to Chester Allen Mitchell and Marguerite A. "Maggie" Mitchell (nee Melson) in Clarksville, DE.

He was a well-known and talented welder.  Leroy was the owner and operator of Indian River Steel Works.  Early in his career he was one of the best underwater welders and also welded for the federal prisons across the country.  Leroy never gave up his love for welding.

In addition to his welding career, Leroy was a 1973 graduate of the Delaware State Police Academy and served as a Police Officer in S. Bethany and Fenwick Island from 1973 to 1979. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending his time hunting, fishing, scuba diving, or boating.

Leroy is survived by his two sons, David Mitchell and his wife, Michelle, and Jerry Mitchell and his wife, Laura, all of Dagsboro, DE. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Desmond Mitchell and his wife, Sara, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Dillon Mitchell, and Kase Mitchell, both of Dagsboro, DE, as well as a great-grandson, Milo.
